The Ballard Historic
Marker Project
In April 2007, the Ballard Historical Society unveiled Historic
Markers on twenty-six buildings located within the Ballard
Avenue Landmark District.
Measuring 12” x 16”, each plaque was fabricated from anodized
aluminum with an etched image of the photograph and text. These
plaques commemorate the buildings with historic photographs and
text which tell their many and varied stories.
In addition to the twenty-six historic markers, a commemorative
plaque engraved with a 1910 image of Ballard Avenue is installed
in Marvin Gardens Park at the intersection of Ballard Avenue and
22nd Avenue NW.
The Ballard Historical Society extends a great big thank you to
the building owners for their support and participation. This
project would not have been possible without their generous
donations as well as a grant from the City of Seattle Small and
Simple Matching Grant Fund.
We are extremely excited about this marvelous project. We invite
you to stroll down Ballard Avenue and learn about the history of
some of Ballard Avenue’s oldest buildings. To aid you in your
tour, a copy of a map showing the historic marker locations is
available below for download below.
